Wednesday, 09 July 2008 - Schedule of Events for Winter of 2008 - 2009
Tuesday 28th October 2008 - Annual General Meeting (AGM). To commemorate the 20th anniversary of the West Kilbride Museum, the AGM will be followed by a talk and display concerning the museum by its curator, Mrs. E. Colquhoun.
Tuesday 25th November 2008 - "The Rocks Around Us", a discussion of the geology of the local area will be presented by John McInnes.
Tuesday 27th January 2009 - "Bees", the problems with their declining numbers and disease may affect us all if pollination by bees is reduced. Presented by Ian Lennox, former Chairman of the British Beekeepers Association.
Tuesday 24th February 2009 - Stuart Fraser will give a talk and demonstration on "Composting and Waste Disposal".
Tuesday 31st March 2009 - A History of Stewarton Bonnet-Making by Mrs McGill and Mrs Gillespie. Stewarton has been a centre of bonnet-making since the days of Tam-o-Shanter. The ladies will discuss the history of the industry and demonstrate the process.
All meetings are held in West Kilbride Commnuity Centre and commence at 7.30 p.m. They are open to members, friends and anyone from the local community. Tea, coffee and biscuits are served after the meetings. There is a small charge of £1
Monday, 07 July 2008 - The Amenity Society pursues its aims by means of publications, lectures and meetings, promotion of schemes of a charitable or conservation nature and by monitoring and supporting plans and schemes which positively contribute to civic awareness and improvement of quality of life in the area. Conversely, the Society offers comment on schemes which may adversely affect the community. During the summer, the Society arranges group visits to interesting or historic buildings, gardens and sites. In the winter, visiting lecturers make presentations of a broad spectrum of topics of interest on a monthly basis. All general meetings and presentations are held in the West Kilbride Community Centre, Corse Street, at 7:30 PM on the last Tuesday of the month. Tea/cofee and conversation are available in the Day Room after the meeting.
